About Garbage Press
We are a small Risograph centered print and illustration studio based in San Francisco. We use an RZ220 for all of our printing needs.
How it works...
-Artwork is formatted and edited to fit within printer limitations and then saved as a greyscale PDF.
-We then print that greyscale PDF to create the positive that we will use to create the print.
-Using the Risograph, we scan the artwork printed to create the stencil-like Master (the Risograph uses a Thermal Print Head to burn tiny dots into a thin sheet of paper) which the RISO will use to create its duplicates.
-The Risograph's internal mechanisms then function much like a combination of screenprinting and letterpress, using that stencil Master and wraps it around an ink drum, which then rotates in sync with a paper feeding system composed of numerous rollers, pressing the sheet of paper against the ink drum as they all rotate together.
